About
Abby Paytas
I am a jeweler from Pittsburgh, PA, where I took a jewelry and metal arts class at my high school for all four years. My passion led me to set up a studio in my house, and later move my studio to Santa Barbara for college. I graduated in March of 2021 from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Earth Science but found time to make and sell jewelry at the local markets with other student artists. I’m inspired by both nature and elements of urban architecture, as well as by different Indigenous jewelry making techniques. Charles Loloma, a Hopi artist, is one of my biggest inspirations.
After moving to San Francisco in early September, this will be my first semester teaching at Metalworks! I’m excited to begin assistant teaching for the beginner’s and advanced fabrication classes this fall, to share ideas and knowledge, and help you make jewelry that you will love.
